What is Included in an Annual Wellness Visit at Heber Valley Pediatrics?

At Heber Valley Pediatrics, we know that keeping your child healthy is your top priority—and it’s ours too. One of the best ways to stay on top of your child’s health is through regular annual wellness visits. These visits give us a chance to check in on your child’s physical, emotional, and developmental health, while also allowing parents to ask questions and raise any concerns.

Whether your child is a toddler, pre-teen, or teen, our team of experienced providers—Dr. David Larson, Dr. Holly Richter, and Katherine Matushek, NP—is here to support your family every step of the way. We want these Heber Valley walk in clinic visits to be helpful, reassuring, and informative.

What’s Included in an Annual Wellness Visit?

As a pediatrician Heber residents trust, we tailor each wellness visit based on your child’s age, development, and needs. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect.

For Children Over 12: Anxiety and Depression Screenings

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and today’s teens are especially susceptible to struggles in this area. A recent CDC survey showed that nearly 20% of teens aged 12–17 self-reported disruptive feelings of anxiety in their lives. For our patients aged 12 and older, we include screenings for anxiety and depression as part of the wellness visit. These screenings are confidential, respectful, and age-appropriate, designed to catch potential concerns early so we can provide the pediatric care in Heber your teen may need.

We often see that teenagers benefit greatly from this opportunity to speak openly in a safe, caring environment. If we identify any concerns, we work closely with families to create a supportive plan moving forward.

Need care today? Remember that we also operate as a walk-in clinic for urgent concerns outside of wellness checks.

Vision Screening for Kids Over 5

Good vision is key to success in school and daily life. Starting at age five, we perform vision screenings during wellness visits at our Heber City medical clinic to ensure your child can see clearly. If we detect any issues, we’ll help you connect with a pediatric ophthalmologist or optometrist for follow-up care.

Reflex Screening & Scoliosis Testing

Every annual wellness visit at our pediatric clinic includes a neurological reflex screening. We check your child’s reflexes to ensure their nervous system is functioning properly, a quick and easy part of the visit that can provide important clues to their overall health.

We also perform scoliosis testing, especially important during periods of rapid growth. Catching spinal curvature early allows us to monitor and treat it before it becomes more serious.

Infant & Baby Checks: Skeletal Development and Growth

For our littlest patients, we spend extra time checking hip joints, muscle tone, and skeletal development. These assessments are crucial in the first year of life when the body is growing rapidly.

We also carefully measure and track your baby’s growth—weight, height, and head circumference—to ensure they’re meeting milestones and developing on track.

Don’t forget that we’re also your Heber Valley walk in clinic for quick concerns like rashes, fevers, or feeding issues in infants.

Cholesterol Testing: Before and After Puberty

We include cholesterol testing as part of wellness care, especially before and after puberty, when hormone changes can impact lipid levels. Catching abnormal cholesterol levels early can help prevent future health issues, especially if there’s a family history of heart disease or high cholesterol.

Vaccines: Flu, RSV, and More

Immunizations are a vital part of your child’s wellness. During your annual visit, we review your child’s vaccine schedule and offer any needed shots. This includes:

  • Flu Shot: Recommended annually for most children over 6 months.
  • RSV Vaccine: Now available for babies 0–12 months, and we’re excited to offer it at Heber Valley Pediatrics! The RSV vaccine is a single-dose shot, not an annual vaccine like the flu shot. It can be given right away during your visit.
RSV vaccines will begin after October 1. If your baby is scheduled for a flu shot in September and you’d like them to receive the RSV vaccine as well, we recommend planning an appointment in October so both can be given at the same visit.
  • Other routine childhood immunizations, such as MMR, Tdap, Hepatitis, and more.

You can get your wellness check and flu shot at the same time at Heber Valley Pediatrics. It’s convenient, safe, and helps protect your whole family as we head into flu season.

If your child needs a quick vaccine or has a mild illness, you’re welcome to stop by our Heber Valley walk in clinic with or without an appointment.
