Newborn Care
What Is Newborn Care?
Newborn care is an area of pediatric medicine focused on the health and wellness of your baby from birth to two months old. Newborn care begins immediately after birth when Dr. Larson visits you and your new little one in the hospital within 24 hours, or you come to the office within 3-5 days after delivery.
Your pediatrician helps calm any fears you may have about your newborn, their health, and any necessary specialized care. Dr. Larson is a valuable resource during your first couple of months and beyond.

What Does Newborn Care Entail?
Newborn care begins immediately after birth with the specialists at the hospital where you give birth. Dr. Larson initiates care of your newborn within 24 hours of delivery in the hospital or within five days of birth in his office.
He performs a thorough newborn exam and orders blood work, newborn screenings, or any treatments they may need. Dr. Larson can also perform your son’s circumcision in the hospital or office. A newborn exam involves an evaluation of your baby’s:
- Skin
- Eyes, nose, and mouth
- Reflexes and neurological status
- Muscle tone and movement
- Cry and reaction to stimulation
- Genitals
- Spine
- Head
- Lungs, heart, and abdomen
After their initial newborn care visit, your newborn sees Dr. Larson at two weeks, one month, and two months old. When your baby graduates from newborn care, they begin regular well-child check-ups, and their comprehensive pediatric care continues into young adulthood.
